“What the really great artists do is they’re entirely themselves. They’re entirely themselves, they’ve got their own vision, they have their own way of fracturing reality, and if it’s authentic and true, you will feel it in your nerve endings.”
— David Foster Wallace
I’ve been sitting with this quote this week as I’m working in the studio and it’s been super useful.
Point your internal compass at pure unfiltered authenticity. This is the only way forward.
THINGS I LOVED THIS WEEK
🎧 I will be playing a meditative ambient set of all original Superposition music + custom visuals this Sunday, July 19 at 6:45 PT with Envelop. There will be a short Q&A after. More info here.
⚔️ The Glitch Mob released a new song this week. It’s a remix for the new Ghost of Tsushima game, alongside Tycho, Tokimonsta, and Alessandro Cortini.
🏞 The most fun thing I found this week: Window Swap allows you to hit shuffle and look out of people’s windows around the world. It’s so cool, you can even upload your own view for others to see.
🍄 Are psychedelics a game-changer for treating depression? This article in Scientific American is a great overview of the current state of this conversation. It may seem tone-deaf to be thinking about this with everything happening in the world right now, but I believe this is going to be profoundly important in the next few years. I do not think they are a miracle cure-all, but they can heal in a way that fosters deep compassion for the world. There has been some research on people that have had psychedelic experience being naturally more pro-environment.
🍴 I made this potato recipe this week and they were so crispy it brought tears to my eyes. Thank me later. The trick: baking soda.
